I. Extra Help :
My current schedule has me opening Z03, the physics lab, by 7:15 a.m. and closing the same after 2:30 p.m. daily. (Before Christmas recess, departure time was closer to 4:00 p.m.)
My schedule is clearly posted at the room entrance and within the room. It indicates that extra help is available daily from 1:43 to 2:10 p.m.
During September, I reference this fact to all classes, nearly each day. Several students from my two algebra I classes have availed themselves of this opportunity many times.
II. Algebra Standards :
My procedures have evolved over the past three decades at ZHS. They are consistent with our three-year academic texts. Students are constantly encouraged to seek assistance after school as often as required.
It should be noted that the CT state tests (CAPT-tests) have emphasized method, procedure and supporting work, not bare answers. This is consistent with my requirements for three and a half decades of instruction.
III. Class Notes :
All students are directed to open texts to current material, open notebooks to same, and remain quiet. In this atmosphere, students can take down for the record, notes on the required procedures and examples demonstrating the same.
However, some students feel algebra class is the place to write, read and pass private notes. (Even talking across the room is in their purview.)
IV. Regrets :
I regret Xena did not avail herself of extra help from me during the first half year.
I regret Xena was not able to take sufficiently thorough notes to assist her most capable tutors.
I regret Xena spent more time evaluating personal notes than processing algebra notes.
I am sorry my effort to provide you immediate assistance during my extremely full day Friday, was perceived by you as unpleasant.
I am sorry our secretaries did not dispatch your Thursday message more rapidly.
I am sorry I did not hear any request for a conference during our brief five minute talk.
